Staff at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) have been urged to be vigilant in light of a reported increase in positive COVID-19 cases among healthcare workers.
An internal memo obtained by the Radio Jamaica News revealed that between late April and May 13, six staff members at the hospital tested positive, most of whom work in the Accident and Emergency Department.
UHWI has reinforced protocols of antigen testing once people are experiencing flu-like symptoms and taking sick leave if a positive result is returned.
It has also strongly recommended the wearing of masks in all crowded areas.
The UHWI informed staff that this protocol may change in response to a further increase in positive cases of COVID among staff or patients.
