US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned amid scrutiny of security lapses related to the recent assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.
In her resignation letter to agency staff on Monday, Ms. Cheatle said she took full responsibility.
She had faced calls from both Democrats and Republicans to step down after a contentious House committee hearing Monday about the incident.
Lawmakers became increasingly frustrated when she refused to answer questions about the shooting at Trump's campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania earlier this month.
In a statement, President Joe Biden said he was grateful for Ms. Cheatle's decades of public service.
