Come January 1, Jamaicans applying for a United States (US)
visa will have to pay more.
The US State Department has announced that the non-immigrant visa will be increased from US$100 to US$131.
According to a release from the US Embassy in Kingston, the increase will allow the State Department to recover increasing costs of security to the non-immigrant visa application process.
The Embassy says applicants who paid the old fee before January 1 will be processed if they are scheduled to appear for an interview before January 31.
Persons who paid US$100 and appear after January 31 will have to pay the additional US$31 before their interview.
The fee for immigrant visas will also be increased by US$20 to US$355 as of January 1.
US visa fees were last increased in 2002.
