Virgin Atlantic's inaugural flight from London Gatwick to
Kingston is scheduled to land at the Norman Manley
International Airport
on Tuesday afternoon.
The United Kingdom based airline is commencing its flight plan to Jamaica under a controversial agreement brokered by the former Government.
Flights are going ahead despite a review which was ordered by the Bruce Golding administration of Virgin Atlantic's purchase of Air Jamaica's London route.
The Government is insisting that the route should be retained by Air Jamaica and has sought legal advice on the sale agreement.
Earlier this month, Virgin Atlantic said it had received clearance to transport persons from Jamaica to the United Kingdom and would proceed with its code sharing arrangement.
Executive Chairman of Air Jamaica, Shirley Williams, says the national airline will abide by the agreement for the time being.
Air Jamaica's landing gates and slots in London were sold for 5 million pounds in a deal signed between Air Jamaica and Virgin Atlantic this year.
