Work underway to clear Portland roads affected by heavy rains

Clean up exercises are now underway in Portland after heavy rains flooded sections of the parish on Wednesday.

The heavy rains affected several communities including, Windsor Castle, Boundbrook, Shrewsbury and Fruitful Vale.

Paul Thompson, Mayor of Port Antonio, said following assessments, minimal damage was found. He said there was minor land slippage in some of the affected communities.

Mud and debris will be cleared away by Friday, he added.

The heavy rains on Wednesday night rendered a bridge impassable for several hours resulting in several residents from the Sea View Farm Road being unable to get home.

The bridge is now accessible to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
