12 flood-related deaths in Haiti

At least 12 people have been reported dead in Haiti following torrential rains that drenched Cap-Haitien for several days, causing widespread floods and landslides.

The Municipal Commission of Cap-Haitien said in one instance at least 11 people lost their lives in Labori, a shantytown, in a landslide which destroyed three houses.

It said rescue teams and residents are continuing to search through the mud and rubble.

The Municipal Commission says it is fully mobilised to assist those affected and coordinate relief efforts and is continuing to work in collaboration with the various emergency services and local organisations.
