THE home of a senior employee of Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) was fire bombed on Sunday.
Reports are that persons unknown, threw a crude, homemade incendiary device commonly called a “flambeau” or “molotov cocktail” at the house about 11.23pm Sunday night.
TCL employee Wayne Benjamin, a chemist with the company for over ten years says he will not be intimidated by the action and will continue to report for duty.
The incident comes less than a week after strike breakers, mainly women, were attacked while in a maxi-taxi t a short distance from the Claxton Bay plant.
Unknown assailants threw stones at the vehicle smashing four windows.
The Trinidad Newsday reports that Benjamin heard his neighbour’s dogs barking followed by a loud noise. On checking the front of his home, he saw fire on a strip of concrete.
Benjamin reportedly said the attack came as no surprise as he had received information of a threat to his home.
He reportedly said the homes of two colleagues of the laboratory department of TCL were stoned.
Workers embarked on strike action at TCL’s main entrance after the Oilfields Workers Trade Union (OWTU) and management failed to reach an agreement for increased wages.
Some of the workers have since returned to work, having reportedly accepted individual contracts.
