2012 Olympic champion added to line-up for Racers Grand Prix

Grenada's 2012 Olympic 400m gold medallist and 2011 world champion Kirani James is the latest international star athlete confirmed to compete at next week Saturday's third staging of the Racers Grand Prix at the National Stadium. Confirmation of James' participation was received Wednesday afternoon from Dennis Gordon, who is in charge of marketing, communications and productions for the meet.

James, the ninth fastest man in history over 400 metres with 43.74 seconds, has not competed over the distance since April 29 last year when he posted an out of sorts 46.21 seconds for sixth at the drake relays in his slowest final time in nine years. James was reported to have been struggling with a respiratory illness which ruled him out of the World Championships last summer.

James joins compatriot Bralon Taplin, Americans Fred Kerley, Michael Cherry and Tony McQuay as well as Jamaicans Javon Francis, national record holder Rusheen McDonald and 2017 World Championship finalist Demish Gaye in the field.

In the meantime, Gordon also revealed that Carifta Games Under-17 double sprint champion, Jamaica's Brianna Williams has also been confirmed to compete in the 100 metres. Williams, who has run 11.31 seconds this season, joins a crack field including American world champion Tori Bowie, Jamaican Commonwealth silver medallist Christania Williams, 2008 Olympic silver medallist Sherone Simpson and Kelly-Ann Baptiste. Live coverage of the Racers Grand Prix will be carried on TVJ, TVJ SN and 1spotmedia.com.
