Jamaica secured five gold medals on the opening day of the NACAC Senior Athletics Championships in the Bahamas. Joneille Smith sped to victory in the women’s 100 metre final. Smith clocked 11.05 seconds to win the event with compatriot Jodean Williams finishing 4th in 11.13. Williams had advanced as the fastest qualifier to the final with a personal best of 11 seconds flat.
Ryiem Forde took silver in the men's 100 metre final clocking 10.01 seconds behind Canadian Jerome Blake who sped to a championship record 9.95 to win. Blake erased the previous record of 9.98 seconds which was set by Jamaica's Ackeem Blake.
2019 world championship silver medalist Fedric Dacres threw 65.10 metres to win the men's discus where compatriot Chad Wright secured the bronze with 62.85 metres.
Amoi brown sped to 12.83 seconds to land the women's 100 metre hurdles, while yanique thompson ended 5th in 13.19.
Demario Prince won the men's 110 metre hurdles in 13.35 seconds, while teammate Jaheim Stern took bronze with 13.63.
