Akhtar doubtful for Pakistan’s World Cup semis against India

Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is doubtful for Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final against India due to fitness concerns.

Akhtar has not been in the starting 11 since the group stage loss to New Zealand, and he subsequently announced he would end his international career after the World Cup.

Several former Pakistan players called for Akhtar to be reinstated in a bid to unsettle India’s batsmen, who are comfortable playing spin but could be vulnerable against all-out pace in Wednesday’s match at Mohali.

Akhtar’s replacement, Wahab Riaz, has not made any impact in the competition and with the pitch expected to provide some help to quick bowlers, Akhtar could play.
