Anderson now second fastest Jamaican female youth sprint hurdler

16 year old Brittany Anderson became the tenth fastest athlete in the girl's Under-18 100 metre hurdles when she clocked a superb 13.18 seconds to win the class 2 event at the Youngster Goldsmith Classic at the National Stadium on Saturday. Anderson's performance came against a minus 1.6 metres per second wind.

The Vere Technical athlete is now the second fastest Jamaican over the Under-18 height behind World Youth record holder Yanique Thompson at 12.94 seconds. Anderson has inched ahead of Layota Greaves who ran 13.22 and Natasha Ruddock 13.24.

Fourth place finisher at the IAAF World Under-20 Championships De'jour Russell of Calabar, now competing in class 1, eased to victory in the 110 metre hurdles in 13.45 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ugandan-born Kingston College athlete Ari Rodgers suffered his first defeat on Jamaican soil after losing in an invitational 800 metre race.

Rodgers clocked 1:54.44 seconds but was inched out by Calabar's Kimar Farquharson who stopped the clock at 1:54.41.

In the sprints, KC's Jhevaughn Matherson sped to the season's fastest time 10.47 seconds to win the class one 100 metres while St Elizabeth Technical's Sachin Dennis scorched to 10.66 to take class 2.

St Jago's Lushane Wilson produced one of the best performances in the field, leaping 2.15 metres to capture the boys class 1 high jump.
