2011 amateur champion Wesley Brown is seeking to join three time winner Johnny Bloomfield as the only Jamaicans to write their name on the prestigious Jamaica Open Golf Championship trophy since its return in 2006 after an 11 year absence.
The three day 54 hole tournament tees off at the Half Moon course on Thursday morning. Brown who won the amateur title on debut in 2011 will be one of the top Jamaicans to challenge for the open title along with three time winner Bloomfield and Peter Horrobin.
However, with the likes of the PGA campaigners Tom Gillis and Gene Jones from the champions tour playing in the 72-man pro field, Brown says he is ready for the challenges from the big name players.
With the course playing over 7230 yards it will be a challenging 54 holes. In 2011 and 2012, Russ Cochran won with 10 and 13 under par totals, but it will be tough this year to achieve scores below that.
There will be three trophies up for grabs, the open, the senior and amateur titles.
