Businessman Chung takes over as interim cycling boss

Businessman Dennis Chung has been nominated as head of interim board of the Jamaica Cycling Federation (JCF) until a special general election on August 20. Sunday's expected vote to elect a new executive of the JCF did not go ahead due to a constitutional snag.

The election will now go ahead on August 20 after a five member interim board to be chaired by presidential candidate Dennis Chung, was installed.

Sunday's vote did not go ahead after only 20 of the 57 members turned up at the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) headquarters to cast their vote for a new executive. Additionally, some members who did not compete in six straight race meets would have been barred from voting.

With only three of the 10 board members present at the AGM on Sunday, no change could be made to the constitution, hence the interim board being established. Chung was unopposed after incumbent president Kirk Finnikin withdraw his challenge.

Chung is hoping that he will be asked to continue at the special AGM  on August 20. Outgoing president Finnikin says he will not challenge the interim president.

Stephen Delapenha will be the first Vice-President; former General Secretary Wayne Palmer will act as 2nd Vice President; Deonne Caines will serve as General Secretary while Rose Vaz will act as Treasurer.
