The reigning urban area and rural area champions Calabar and St. Jago retained their respective Chess Federation high school crowns at the PCJ building in Kingston on Wednesday.
Calabar needed a tie break to turn back the challenge of Ardenne in the urban area final. After playing to a 2-all draw, the Red Hills Road standard bearers prevailed 3.5 to 1.5 points in the tie break.
Defending all island champions St. Jago easily dispatched Glenmuir 3-nil to retain their rural area title and set up a repeat of last season's all island clash against Calabar on Thursday March 19.
The top school will win the pcj championship trophy and $150,000.
