American sprint and jump legend Carl Lewis has warned Jamaican super star sprinter Usain Bolt to forget about doing the quadruple in London this summer.
Bolt, the triple Olympic champion from the 2008 Games in Beijing, is considering the quadruple – the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay – at the London Games, but Lewis, believes it could back fired on him. The American thinks why he could win both the 100m and 200m, the relays are the most difficult.
"Every event is not guaranteed," said Lewis in a recent interview.
"When I went in to win the 100m, which is the toughest one, it was such a relief to get that out of the way.
"But then you have to go back and long jump well under the conditions, you have to run all the 200metres, you have to run the relay and you can't afford anyone to drop the baton."
Lewis said the Americans will be tough to beat in the 4x400m.
He said: "Being from America, I'll warn him that the 4x400m is going to be pretty tough. I don't remember when we last lost that.
"But I think that people should try to set goals and try to achieve them and really focus on being the best they can be.
"So I wish the best to anyone who is trying to do multiple events, it's great for the sport." At the 1984 Games in LA, Lewis won gold medals over the 100m, 200m, long jump and 4x100m to match the Olympic record set by Jesse Owens from 1936
