CAS Appeals underway for Asafa and Sherone

The appeal by sprinters Sherone Simpson and Asafa Powell to have their 18 month doping ban reduced to three months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, started on Monday.

On June 18, CAS upheld a stay of execution, allowing the Olympic medallists to compete pending their two day appeal.

At that time their American based attorney, Paul Greene, expressed optimism of getting the ban reduced.

However, their 18-month suspensions, imposed by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel tribunal which are scheduled to end December 20 this year, could be reinforced should their appeals fail.

The Olympic and World Championship medallists tested positive for the stimulant Oxilofrine in June 2013.
