Attorneys representing national hammer throw record holder Nayoka Clunis are now set to make one final throw of the dice to get her into the Olympics in Paris.
An administrative bungling by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) left Clunis on the outside looking in for the July 26 to August 11 games in France.
It left the 28 year old fighting to regain a spot she had earned through world ranking points. Attorney representing Clunis, Sayeed Bernard, spoke with Radio Jamaica Sports on Wednesday.
Radio Jamaica sports understands that a JAAA official wrote to Clunis, indicating that they were not able to double check the list sent to world athletics due to electricity and internet issues caused by the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
Bernard was quick to point out that they are not in a fight with the JAAA in the matter. He says they are doing their homework before filing the appeal.
According to communication from World Athletics to the JAAA, Clunis' participation now depends on whether another athlete withdraws from the competition.
However, with the official entry list being published on Friday without her name, it seems unlikely the 28 year old who set the national hammer throw record of 71.83 metres this year will get a chance to compete.
