CONCACAF releases findings into 2015 Gold Cup officiating

A difference in FIFA guidelines and errors by match referees are among some of the issues found during a CONCACAF investigation into officiating during last year's Gold Cup.

However, the review panel said it found no clear or convincing evidence of match fixing or an intentional effort to affect the results of the matches.

The concerns were raised by some teams involved in controversial decisions during the quarterfinals and semi finals of last year's Gold Cup. CONCACAF also revealed that the referees admitted personal errors and apologised for them.

The regional governing body also conceded that it is possible that a number of external circumstances including labour disputes by the referee group and internal disputes, were an unnecessary distraction for the referees at a critical time.

CONCACAF says it has determined that the referee and match official appointment process requires reform.

According to CONCACAF it has identified areas for administrative improvement which will address referee payment and reimbursement issues, as well as various procedural and management functions within the referee group.
