DaCosta Cup semi-finalists now known

Surprise package McGrath High booked a place in their first ever ISSA DaCosta Cup semi-final despite suffering a loss in their final quarter-final round game on Tuesday. McGrath who have never passed the first round before this year, topped Group 4 of the second round with six points despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to St Elizabeth Technical.

Also on Tuesday, Brandon Curate's hattrick guided last year's beaten finalists Cornwall College through to the last four after they beat Maggotty 3-0. The 12 time winners needed to beat Moggotty and hope Manchester High failed to beat Garvey Maceo.

But if Garvey Maceo had won their contest, Cornwall had to ensure they scored more goals than the 2007 champions to advance. Curate's first goal came on the stroke of half-time as he converted from the penalty spot.

He added his second in the 74th minute and at that stage Cornwall were only a goal better than Garvey Maceo. The insurance came with four minutes of regular time left to ensure another last 4 berth.

The result for Cornwall College condemned Garvey Maceo to second place in the group despite an exciting 3-2 win over Manchester High at Manchester's school grounds.

Elsewhere on the day, defending champions Clarendon College maintained their unbeaten run with a 7-0 hammering of Anchovy High to end top of Group 1 with maximum 9 points.

Dinthill Technical also progressed to another DaCosta Cup semi-final following their 2-1 victory over Frome.

Also on the day, BB Coke beat Happy Groove 2-1, Port Antonio stopped Petersfield 4-2, while Manning’s and Cedric Titus ended goalless.
