World Under-20 200 metre bronze medallist Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High School sped to a creditable 23.62 seconds to win her season opener in the half lap event at Friday's staging of the Sprint Fest track meet at the Ashenheim Stadium at Jamaica College.
Running into a negative 1.2 metre per second headwind, Douglas who is the defending Class 2 girls 200 metre and 400 metre champion from the ISSA Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Championships last season, easily turned back the challenge of Natrece East of Wolmer's who did 25.10 seconds.
Douglas says while the target will be on her back this season, she is aiming to continue making incremental improvements throughout the season.
Sanjay Semour of Williams Knibb was the top performer in the Class 1 boys 200 metres, winning his heat in 21.44 seconds ahead of Johan-Ramaldo Smythe of Muschett with 21.59 and Nathaniel Martin of Jamaica College 21.64 seconds.
