England Roses defeated Jamaica's Sunshine Girls comfortably, 66-44, to claim the bronze medal at Netball's World Cup in Sydney, Australia on Saturday night, local time.
The Roses who defeated Jamaica 54-50 in a solid performance during the group stages, fell behind by five goals in the first quarter, but produced a stunning 10-goal swing in the second quarter for a 28-23 lead, as defender Sonia Mkoloma and wing defence Serena Guthrie settled things down for the Roses.
Thereafter, England cruised to their second straight bronze medal, following a similar finish in Singapore in 2011. Jamaica had defeated England for the bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014.
In the Championship game, the Australia Diamonds, who suffered a shock defeat to the Silver Ferns on day-3, won their third straight world title, defeating New Zealand's Silver Ferns 58-55 in the final.
Australia's goalshooter Caitlin Bassett carried over her brilliant shooting from the semifinal against Jamaica, as Bassett scored 47 goals from 51 attempts, while Ned Medhurst assisted with 11-13.
The match was played before a capacity crowd of 16,742 at the Allphones Arena in Sydney.
It was Australua's 11th World title.
The 2019 World Cup will be staged in Liverpool, England.
