FIFA has released figures showing that the 2026 World Cup to be hosted across 16 cities in the USA, Canada and Mexico, is expected to generate over USD $3.8 billion.
In its first-ever economic impact assessment for the 2026 tournament examining its effects on Canada, estimates show that the preparation and hosting of the tournament will generate $3.8 billion in added value for Canada.
The tournament, starting with the opening match in Toronto on June 12, 2026, could contribute around $2 billion to Canada's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), $1.3 billion to earned income, and $700 million in government revenue.
Additionally, it is predicted to create or secure 24,100 jobs during this period. The 2026 FIFA World Cup, expected to be the largest sporting event in history, will feature 48 teams and 104 matches across 39 days in 16 cities in three countries.
