JCF receives 27 new vehicles from Japan government

The Jamaica Constabulary Force on Tuesday received a boost to its policing capabilities with the addition of 27 new vehicles.

The Toyota Land Cruisers were donated by the Government of Japan and are expected to significantly enhance the operational capacity of the police force in town centres and crime hotspots as well heightened patrols during the busy festive season.

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang, who addressed the handing over ceremony held at the Office of the Police Commissioner, said the development is timely.

Highlighting the importance of the contribution, Dr. Chang said “Mobility, alongside communication and training, forms the backbone of modern policing, and these vehicles will strengthen [the JCF's] ability to serve and protect.”

Japan’s Ambassador to Jamaica, His Excellency Yasuhiro Atsumi, said the handover marked another landmark in the special relationship between the two countries as “Japan has long been a dependable and steadfast partner of Jamaica, supporting…development in various areas.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also acknowledged that Tuesday's donation signifies the strength of the partnership between the two countries.
