Goule-Toppin takes Jamaica's lone podium finish at inaugural Athlos track meet

Natoya Goule-Toppin was the best placed Jamaican at the inaugural Athlos track and field meet, a women's only meet which was held in New York on Thursday. 

Goule-Toppin clocked 1 minute, 58.63 seconds for third in the women's 800 meters which was won by Ethiopian Tsige Duguma in a minute, 57.43 seconds. 

The other Jamaican competitor at the meet, reigning world champion Danielle Williams had to settle for 5th in the women's 100 metre hurdles, clocking 12.56 seconds.

Tokyo Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won the event in 12.36 seconds.

Meanwhile, Olympic champion Gabby Thomas with 22.21, was beaten into second place in the women's 200 meters by fellow American Brittany Brown who sped to 22.18 seconds for victory. 

Six events were contested at the meet, with each winner pocketing US $60,000, twice the prize which was offered at the 2024 Diamond League final, with a purse totaling $500,000.

Additionally 10 percent of all event revenues were distributed to participants at the meet.

Athlos is a women's only track and field meet which was conceptualized by entreprenuer Alexis Ohanian who is the husband of tennis great Serena Williams.
