The RJR Sports Centre
understands West Indies skipper Chris Gayle
will be missing the official Indian Premier League (IPL) because of a hamstring
injury.
The attacking Jamaican batsman was signed on to represent the Kolkota Knight Riders for US$800,000 but it has not yet been ascertained how it would affect his contract.
Gayle strained his hamstring while fielding during the rain abandoned final One Day International against Sri Lanka in St. Lucia Tuesday night.
Gayle who has been advised to rest will also miss the Carib Beer Challenge Shield final.
However it is hoped that he will be fit for the Australian tour starting May 22.
A West Indies captain and squad have not yet been chosen for that series.
