ISSA amends rules and regulations governing transfers

Report by RJRGLEANER Group Sports Reporter Renardo Brown

The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) has amended some of its rules and regulations governing the transfer of students for the upcoming academic year.

All students transferring from a secondary institution outside of Jamaica will now be subject to a waiting period of one year before becoming eligible to participate in ISSA-organized competitions, irrespective of their age.

This means that students under 16 years old and coming from secondary schools abroad are now subjected to the waiting period. These students will also now be regarded as members of the school's quota for each sport.

However, exceptions will apply to children of Jamaican nationality or whose parents or grandparents are Jamaican and who are under 16 years old. The changes to the rules will take effect on September 1 of this year.
