President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), Dr Warren Blake, says the NACAC region has been front runners in trying to establish protected dates for the staging of national championships.

Dr Blake's comments come on the heels of Thursday's announcement by the world governing body that national athletics championships will be protected from calendar clashes until after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

World Athletics says the protected window would ensure elite athletes will no longer be put in a quandary between attending their national trials and fulfilling sponsors' requirements.
