Jamaica draw with Windwards in CWI Rising Stars tournament

Jamaica's Under-17 cricketers held on for a draw after a fighting performance from the batters in their second round Cricket West Indies (CWI) regional 2-day game against the Windward Islands at Gilbert Park in Trinidad on Sunday.

The Windwards who held a 44 run first innings advantage, started Sunday's second day at 107-6 with and overall lead of 151 runs. They went on to add a further 52 runs as they declared their second innings at 159-9.

Khan Elcock top scored with 42, while Kodi Grant made 35. Deshawn James, Perico Henry and Vitel Lawes all claimed 2 wickets for Jamaica.

Set 204 runs to win the Jamaicans got off to a good start with openers Savio Jones 39 and captain Tyriek Bryan 27, added 57 runs for the first wicket.

The Jamaicans then slipped to 149-7 before eventually getting to the close of play at 177-9. The innings was held together by wicketkeeper David Dewar who made a top score of 43. Joel Durand ended with 3-38, while Theo Edwards had 2-21 for the Windwards.

The Jamaicans who were bowled out for 48 in their first innings response to 92 all out made by the Windwards, lost their opening game by an innings and 48 runs to Barbados.
