Jamaica's two-man Bobsleigh team of Winston Watts and Marvin Dixon has opened another chapter in the country's illustrious sporting history.
The Jamaica Olympic Association on Monday announced that all travel costs of the team to the Sochi Games will be covered through its Olympic Solidarity Programme.
There had initially been concern that the team might not have had the funds required to make it to the Olympics and an online fund raising campaign had reportedly been launched.
The JOA received confirmation from the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation, that the nation's two man team have gained qualification to the Winter Olympic Games In Sochi, Russia next month.
The JOA Chef de Mission Christian Stokes will head Jamaica's five member delegation to the games.
The other members are Watts, Dixon, alternate crew member Wayne Blackwood and coach Thomas Samuel.
Stokes is scheduled to arrive in Sochi on February 3 and the team will arrive on February 4.
The first official event will be the flag raising ceremony in the athletes’ village on February 5.
The opening ceremony of the games will be on Friday, February 7 and the competition for the 2 men bobsleigh team will take place on February 19 and 20.
This is the first time since 2002 that Jamaica will be represented in bobsleigh at the Winter Games.
Jamaica's first appearance in the sport at the winter games was in 1988 in Calgary Canada when the nation was represented by a four-member team.
Skier Errol Kerr, who switched allegiance from the United States, also represented Jamaica at the 2010 games in Vancouver.
