Jamaica secured three more medals on Sunday’s final day of the 18th World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon to finish third on the medal table.
Britany Anderson who smashed the national record by clocking a sensational 12.31 seconds in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles, came back later to cop silver in the final where she logged a wind-assisted 12.23 seconds.
Nigerian Tobi Amusan who set a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the semi-finals, took the gold in a wind-aided 12.06 seconds, while Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn earned the bronze in 12.23 seconds.
There were also silver medals for Jamaica’s men and women’s mile relay teams. The men’s quartet of Akeem Bloomfield, Nathon Allen, Jevaughn Powel and Christopher Taylor clocked a season’s best 2 minutes, 58.58 seconds to finish behind winners the United States who recorded 2 minutes, 57.17 seconds. Belgium secured the bronze in 2 minutes, 58.72 seconds.
The final event of the night saw Jamaica’s team of Candice McLeod, Janieve Russell, Stephenie McPherson and Charokee Young clocking a season’s best 3 minutes, 20.74 seconds to take the silver in the 4x400m relay as the USA landed gold in a world-leading 3 minutes, 17.79 seconds and Great Britain and Northern Ireland the bronze in a season’s best 3 minutes, 22.64 seconds.
Jamaica ended the championship with 10 medals, 2 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze. The United States topped the medal table with 33, comprising 13 gold, 9 silver and 11 bronze.
The 2023 World Championships will be held in Budapest, Hungary from August 19–27.
