Local ports massage therapists are now under the guidance and leadership of a national association following Tuesday's official launch of the Jamaica Sports Massage Therapists Association.
When local sports massage therapists approached the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) for assistance, they were advised to form an association.
As a result, a 7-member executive headed by president and veteran physiotherapist Marcia Swyer-Forbes came into existence in April of last year.
The association will now move to establish representation in each parish while emphasis will also be placed on development seminars, training and communication with the media to get its message and activities across to members of the sporting fraternity.
Having been instrumental in the formation of the Massage Therapists Association, (JOA) president Christopher Samuda says his organization will now be in a better position to select members of the supporting cast for national teams going into international competitions.
One-hundred-and-ten persons have so far indicated that they want to become members of the Jamaica Sports Massage Therapists Association.
Tuesday's launch took place at the headquarters of the Jamaica Olympic Association.
