Leanna Wainwright lowered her personal best and the national 15-17 age group record in the women's 50m backstroke event, as she finished third in heat two of the preliminary round at the World Aquatics Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday.
Wainwright swimming from lane 3, touched the wall in 29.54 seconds, but her time was not good enough to see her secure one of the qualifying sports to the next round as it ranked her 41st overall.
Meanwhile, Jaco Crooks from the Cayman Islands and who has Jamaican parents, placed third in the men's 50m backstroke final. He touched the wall at 45.48 seconds, as Jack Alexy won in 45.38 seconds.
