Jamaicans produce creditable performances at Ed Murphy Classic

National 100m hurdles record holder Ackera Nugent showed her sprint speed over the flat event after finishing second in the women’s 100m at the Ed Murphy Track and Field Classic on Friday night.

Nugent who ran 11.15 seconds in the preliminaries earlier returned to run 11.13 seconds to finish behind Favour Offili of Nigeria who won in 11.13sec.

In the men's 100m, Nigel Ellis was the best placed Jamaican, finishing 7th in 10.31seconds. Kadrian Goldson was 8th in 10.39 seconds, while Yohan Blake was 9th in 10.42 seconds. The event was won by American PJ Austin in 10.04 seconds.

Olympic-bound Navasky Anderson in his search to regain his form from 2023 had his worse finish of the season in finishing 11th in the men's 800m in 1 minute, 47.23 seconds. Anderson is yet to win in seven events this season.

Tarees Rhoden was 4th in 1 minute, 46.50 seconds.

Orlando Bennett ended 6th in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.67 seconds, the same time as another Jamaican, Odario Phillips who was 7th. Lafranz Campbell 13.81 seconds and Damion Thomas 14.45, did not make the final.

In the women's 100m hurdles, world champion Danielle Williams was third in 12.81sec. Christina Clemons of the USA won in 12.61 seconds. Candice McLeod did not finish in the women’s 400m.
