Jamaica's 2-man bobsleigh team wins historic gold

Jamaica’s 2-man bobsleigh team struck gold on Sunday in Park City, Utah, after a dramatic finish in Race 3 of the North American Cup.

Despite crashing and overturning in the final stages of the face, Pilot Shane Pitter and brakeman Joel Fearon produced an impressive combined time of 1 minute, 38.88 seconds, holding off Canada’s Jay Dearborn and Shane Ohrt by five hundredths of a second.

The result continues a strong showing this season for Jamaica on the North American circuit, as the programme pushes toward qualification for next year’s Winter Olympics.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Mica Moore also claimed a well-earned bronze medal in the women’s monobob also at the North American Cup on Sunday, finishing in a tie for third with South Korea’s Yooran Kim.

Moore clocked a combined 52.78 seconds, delivering a strong, consistent run that kept her in medal contention from start to finish. She trailed only Canada’s Bianca Ribi, who won gold in 52.39, and Chinese Taipei’s Sin-Rong Lin, who secured silver in 52.54 seconds.

There was also another Jamaican in the top 10, as Adanna Johnson finished 9th with a time of 53.36 seconds, marking another encouraging performance for the island’s expanding bobsleigh programme.
