Jamaica's team departed the island on Thursday, bound for the 52nd staging of the Carifta Athletics Championships in Trinidad and Tobago.
The team of 84, including some of the island's most talented junior athletes, is aiming to top the medal standings for a 39th consecutive year.
Some of the medal prospects, quarter miler Marcinho Rose, sprinter Sabrina Dockery and sprint hurdler Daniel Clarke shared their goals heading into the championship.
Sports Minister Olivia "Babsy" Grange, who was among the dignitaries present to send off the team, said the government contributed $5 million to support this year's Carifta squad.
Technical Leader David Riley, said the athletes have gotten adequate rest coming out of the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships at the end of March, and he's expecting great results from the team.
Jamaica dominated the Carifta Championships in Grenada last year with 83 medals, 44 gold, 23 silver and 16 bronze. The Carifta Games is scheduled for April 19-21 in Trinidad and Tobago.
