The Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA) has responded to a story aired by Radio Jamaica Sports on July 21, examining funds being routed through the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to the Cavalier Under-17 and Harbour View Under 10 teams as they travelled to play in two youth tournaments overseas.
The JOA, which still has not granted Radio Jamaica Sports’ requests for an interview on the issue, said grants made to the JFF, which was acting in the interest of two clubs with members of Jamaica's Olympic football team, were not in breach of the Olympic Charter.
The JOA, which has not disclosed the amount of money provided, also reinforced that it did not disburse funding to any of the clubs, Cavalier Soccer Club and Harbour View Football Club.
Radio Jamaica Sports did not report that the JOA disbursed funds directly to the two clubs. The JOA added that it has provided funding to athletes under the Olympic Solidarity Programme, whose requests have been furnished by their sporting body.
The JOA stated it is also not uncommon for the it to accommodate requests for assistance made by athletes of clubs, and whose requests are made through their national federations.
