Taj Marques White of Kingston College and Shevaughn Thomas of Vere Technical secured victories in the Under 20 boys and girls 400 metres on day two of the Carifta Track and Field Trials at GC Foster College.
White who has been hampered by injuries in the last two seasons, announced a return to full fitness with a personal best 46.15 seconds to win the U20 boys 400 metres. He won ahead of teammate Marcinho Rose 46.40 and Daniel Wright of Excelsior 46. 50 seconds.
Thomas of Vere Technical took the U20 girls equivalent in 53.60 ahead of the Homwood Technical pair of Abrina Wright 53.66 and Annastacia Hall 54.33 seconds.
St Jago Highs' Rushaine Richards took the Under 17 boys equivalent in 48.21 seconds, the same time as Calabar's Diwayne Sharpe in a close finish. Denbigh High's Chanton White was third in 49.34.
Foga Road's Shmicka McLean won the Under 17 girls section in 54.47. She finished ahead of Holwood Technical's Tracy Evans 54.84 and Maddison Campbell 54.95.
Meanwhile, Jaime Tulloch of Immaculate High and Kamari Kennedy of Calabar secured double victories on day 2.
Tulloch who won the Under 17 shot put on Friday, returned to take the discus with a throw of 42.44 meters.
The Under 20 girls discus was won by Shamoya Morris of Edwin Allen with 51.06 metres ahead of Marla Kay Lampart of Clarendon College 50.89 meters.
Kennedy who won the Under 17 boys shot put on Friday, took the discus on Saturday with a throw of 59.78 metres.
Brandon Lawrence of Munro College was second with 46.69 metres.
Joseph Salmon of Jamaica College won the U20 boys event with 54.53 metres ahead of Devonte Edwards of Munro College 53.30 metres.
Chavez Penn of Jamaica College won the U20 boys high jump with 2.18 metres with Aaron McKenzie second with 2.05 metres, while Danielle Noble of Wolmer’s took the U20 girls section with 1.78 metres.
The 3-day meet which concludes on Sunday, is being used to select Jamaica's team for the Carifta Games set for April 19-21 in Trinidad and Tobago.
