Radio Jamaica Sports has confirmed that Olympic 100 metre silver medallist Kishane Thompson will not be competing at the 20th World Athletics Indoor Championships from March 21-23 in Nanjing, China.
Thompson who is currently ranked joint second in the world for the 60 metre event alongside compatriot Julian Forte with a time of 6.48 seconds, is said to have sustained a slight niggle in training.
His coach Stephen Francis has taken the decision to withdraw him from the World Indoor Championships out of precaution, adding that Thompson should be fine in a couple of days. The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) is expected to announce Jamaica's team by Friday.
Veteran coach Stephen Francis is anticipating that fast times at the National Stadium could be a thing of the past following the resurfacing of the track by manufacturers Rekortan.
Francis says laying the new surface on top of the previous surface means that the track is likely to get slower.
