Defending champion Urban Knights rallied from an 8 point
first quarter deficit to defeat Majesty All Stars 75-63 in the opening game of
their JABA /KFC National Basketball best of 3 semi-finals at the Stadium Court.
The defending champions who led 35-33 at half time were able to secure a 12 point victory through the efforts of Andy Smith 23 points, Fernando Young 12 points and Oneil Mundle 21 rebounds.
Baldon Todd 22 points and Kemar Mcleish 20 again led the way for Majesty All Stars who were outscored 18-9 in the last quarter.
Despite the win, Knights' coach Calvin Martin said a few areas were unsatisfactory.
While, Majesty's coach Ludlow Barker lamented his side's lack of consistency throughout the game.
Game two in the series will be contested
Tuesday at 7.45 p.m. after Port Royal Bulls try to wrap up their series against Tivoli Wizards at 6.
Meantime, Hopewell Vipers were Sunday night crowned Western Basketball Associations Fruta men's league champions after outscoring Central Flames 67-63.
Demar McGregor had 27 points and 13 rebounds for champions Hopewell Vipers while Craig Dorman with 24 points led the way for Central Flames.
Both the Vipers and Flames have earned promotion to the Western basketball championship.
Mobay Boys Club took third place as led by Sheldon Lyle 24 points they defeated UCC Blazers 68-65.
Meantime, Oberon Pitterson scored a game high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and had 7 steals as Waulgrovian Bullets defeated Metro Bells 74-42 to reach the final of the JABA invitational women's basketball league.
Latoya Bidwell-Wallace supported with 26 points as the bullets earned the right to face Brave Smilers in the final.
Andrea Williams and Anna Kay Morris 11 points each led efforts for Metro Bells.
