West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews is hoping the Caribbean side's victory over hosts New Zealand at the 2022 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup will provide momentum to the team for the remainder of the tournament.

The Windies recorded an exciting three run win at the Bay Oval on Friday.

Batting first, the Caribbean side posted 259-9 off their 50 overs with Matthews top scoring with 119.

In reply, New Zealand who needed six runs to win off the last over with three wickets in hand, fell apart, as Deandra Dottin took two wickets and orchestrated a run out to lead the Caribbean side to victory as New Zealand were bowled out for 256 in 49.5 overs.

This was only the second time the West Indies were defeating New Zealand in a Women's World Cup and the first time since 2013.

The West Indies will next be in action against England on Tuesday in Dunedin.
