West Indies women's captain Hayley Matthews has created history after being named Wisden’s leading T20 cricketer of 2023. Matthews is the first ever woman to cop the award in its seven year history.
Last year, Matthews won 8 consecutive T20 international match awards. During that period she averaged 88 with the bat at a strike rate of 144 and also averaged 12 with the ball.
The Barbadian was a WPL title-winner with Mumbai Indians, the fifth-leading run-scorer in the competition, and captained Barbados Royals to victory in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), scoring 82 from 59 and taking 2-38 in the final.
Her overall T20 international record for the year read 700 runs from 14 matches at an average of 63 along with 19 wickets at 16.
