Tantalizing battle for jockeys' championship continues; Bootylicious romps feature event

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

The see-saw battle for the jockey's championship at Caymanas Park continued on Saturday with only one win separating Raddesh Roman and Tevin Foster at the end of the day's programme.

Roman entered Saturday's 9-race card on 123 wins, three clear of foster, but while Roman went winless, Foster recorded a double to cut the deficit to just one, having ended the day on 122 wins.

Meanwhile, the Peter John Parsard-trained Bootylicious justified her favouritism with a gate to wire performance to land the Ahwhofah Sprint, the feature event for Overnight Allowance runners over 6 furlongs.

The 4 year old bay filly went off as the 4-5 favourite under outgoing champion jockey Reyan Lewis in the field of 13. Bootylicious covered the distance in a minute, twelve-and-four-fifths of a second.

Former champion jockey Dane Dawkins also recorded a double, as well as former champion trainer Anthony "Baba" Nunes. Racing continues on Sunday with a 9-race card starting at 11:45 am.
