Olympic champion Omar McLeod is the new national record holder for the 110m hurdles. McLeod sped to 12.90 seconds in landing the event on Saturday night at the National Stadium on what was the penultimate day of action at the JAAA Puma Senior National Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
McLeod prevailed over the fast-rising Ronald Levy 13.13 and former record holder and Olympic bronze medallist Hansle Parchment who posted a season-best equaling 13.19 seconds.
Elsewhere, Natoya Goulle retained the women’s 800m title in 2 minutes, 00.90; Fedrick Dacres also retained the men’s discus with a throw of 66.52 metres while Ramone Bailey won the men’s long jump title after cutting the sand at 8.16 metres to attain the qualifying standard for the World Championships in London.
National shot putt record holder Danniel Thomas-Dodd stayed true to from, throwing 18.80 meters to win the event.
Natalie Grant captured another title in the women's hammer throw event, producing 56.87 meters while Canigga Raynor threw 70.93 meters to take the men's event.
Sunday’s last day will see the running of the men’s and women’s 200m and 400m finals as well as the women’s sprint hurdles final.
