New champion to be crowned in this year's CPL

A new champion will be crowned in this year's Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after defending champions the Jamaica Tallawahs went down to the Guyana Amazon Warriors by 81 runs in in qualifier two on Friday night at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

The Amazon Warriors who were sent in to bat, posted a competitive 182-6. Wicketkeeper Azam Khan led the way with a top score of 54, while Shai Hope weighed in with 40 and Shimron Hetmyer 31. Shamar Springer and Nicholson Gordon claimed two wickets each for the Tallawahs.

Set 183 to win, the Tallawahs crumbled to 101 all out in 15.1 overs.

Only Imad Wasim with an unbeaten 43, offered any real resistance against captain Imran Tahir with 3-7 and Player of the Game Dwaine Pretorius 2-21. 

The Amazon Warriors will meet the Trinbago Knightriders in the final on Sunday.
