"Not true!"

The Jamaican Government is refuting claims of neglect by the family of the late St Jago High athlete, Cavahn McKenzie who died almost a year ago while representing the country at the NACAC Cross Country Championships in Trinidad & Tobago.

The family admitted it had received support from the government in the aftermath of Cavahn's tragic passing, but his mother Pauline Dennis is crying foul and says she has been unable to contact officials since October last year to get further clarification on her son's death.

Among the officials she says she has been unable to contact is Natalie Neita Headley, Minister with responsibility for Sports.

But, in refuting Ms Dennis’ claim, Mrs. Neita  Headley told RJR Sports that all relevant documents from the completed autopsy reports have been handed over to the family and that she has made herself available, should the family and their attorney chose to go further with their investigations.

As for the coroner’s reports from both Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica, Ms. Dennis is complaining about what she says are traces of a poisonous substance and even marijuana being found in her son's system.

But Dr. Warren Blake, President of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), has dismissed the marijuana claim. He said Cavahn, who ingested an over-the-counter drug while in Trinidad & Tobago, might have had a pre-existing heart condition.
