Parchment's 25 race day ban reduced to 6 days after appeal

Report by RJRGLEANER Communications Group Sports Reporter Spencer Darlington

Veteran jockey Phillip Parchment will no longer have to serve the maximum punishment of a 25 race day ban by the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) stewards following Wednesday's appeal hearing.

The initial ban for deliberate and intentional intimidation an interference at the start of the Jamaica Oaks on August 2, was handed down last Tuesday. However, the suspension has now been reduced to 6 days, effective this Saturday.

Parchment was represented by president of the Jamaica Jockeys' Agents Association Donovan Wilson, while fellow riders Wesley "Callaloo" Henry and Dick Cardenas also gave evidence.

JRC chairman Clovis Metcalfe explained to Radio Jamaica Sports that while the stewards saw evidence that Parchment caused intimidation and interference at the start of the race, the JRC could not prove that his conduct at the start of the race was intentional.
