Positive reactions have come from Jamaica's coaching staff following the draw for the CONCACAF round of World Cup qualifiers. The draw for the tournament held on Tuesday morning.
Jamaica's senior Reggae Girls have been drawn alongside top ranked Canada in Group ‘B’ of the tournament which will begin on October 4 in the USA. The group also includes Costa Rica and Cuba.
The Caribbean champions were ruthless in the CFU qualifiers trouncing Antigua and Barbuda 9-0, Bermuda 4-0, Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 and Cuba 6 -1. The CONCACAF draw sees the Jamaicans evading powerhouse Mexico and second ranked team the United States in the knockout stage.
Reggae Girls assistant coach Andrew Price has called it a good draw but adds that the going will still be tough for the Reggae Girls. The Reggae Girls broke camp on Sunday night following the game against Cuba with most of the girls already late for college or club duties. The Jamaicans will open their account against Canada on October 4 before facing Costa Rica on October 8 and Caribbean neighbours Cuba on October 11.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago, the other Caribbean team in the championship, has been drawn in Group ‘A’ alongside top ranked USA, Mexico and Panama. The top three teams will qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup in France next year while the fourth place team goes into a playoff against Argentina.
