After a 22 year wait, the national women's 400 metre record has been broken twice in 42 days after 23 year old Nikesha Pryce lowered the mark at the London Diamond League meet on Saturday, running a meet record and world-leading time to win the event.
Price, the national champion, is now the 7th fastest woman of all time over 400 metres and is only one of two active athletes in the top 10 on the all-time list after clocking a sizzling meet record 48.57 seconds. Pryce ran 48.89 seconds in June to eclipse the old national record of 49.30 done by Lorraine Fenton in 2002.
Meanwhile, national record holder Roshawn Clarke showed his readiness for the Olympic Games with his first sub-48 second run of the season in taking the runner-up spot in the men's 400 metre hurdles.
Clarke ran a season's best 47.63 seconds, a time only bettered by his 47.34 national record run from the Budapest World Championships last year. The event was won by Brazilian Alison dos Santos in 47.18 seconds.
