Jamaica's Reggae Girlz opened their CONCACAF Women's World Cup qualifying campaign with a record 18-0 mauling of Dominica at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium in St Lucia on Saturday.
Captain Khadija "Bunny" Shaw returned to the squad with a bang, scoring a first half hattrick to take her record tally to 60 goals for Jamaica. Shaw's goals came in the 4th, 39th and 43rd minutes for the Reggae Girlz who led 10-0 at half time.
Jody Brown also scored a three timer, in minutes 9, 35 and 82. Kalyssa Van Zanten, Deneisha Blackwood and substitutes Natasha Thomas and Shaneil Buckley were on the scoresheet twice.
The Reggae Girlz surpassed their previous highest scores in a world cup qualifier, a 14-0 beating of St Lucia in 2014 and 13-0 over Guadeloupe in 2018.
The Girlz next game will be against Nicaragua on March 2, 2026. Head coach Hubert Busby Jr described the win as business-like, adding it was mission accomplished in their opening World Cup qualifier.
