One of the most riveting and enthralling battles for the local jockeys' championship in decades at Caymanas Park culminated on Saturday with Raddesh "The Sneaky Fox" Roman being crowned a first time champion.

His titanic battle with "Terrific" Tevin Foster went down to the very last race with roman emerging victorious by just 1 win.

Roman entered the final day on the local racing calendar with 7 rides a slender lead of three over his arch rival and 2018 batch mate Tevin Foster who had secured 8 mounts.

It was Foster who turned up the tempo, booting home a natural hattrick from races 2 to 4 to level the standings at 132 wins each.

Roman had to wait until race number 5 for his only win on the programme, guiding home the Phillip Elliott-trained 3-1 chance Oil Machine over a mile.
The championship came down to the very last race on the card where Foster had a chance to end the battle in a tie, but had to settle for the runner-up spot aboard the second choice Medal Award, as clowning around under new apprentice Emilio McClean created an 8-1 mild upset.

Roman ended with a tally of 133 wins, 83 wins more than he recorded last year, while foster finished on 132, 49 more than his 2023 tally.
